San Mateo County voter registration hit an all-time high, reaching 394,396 registrations for the November 8 Presidential Election. Registering is just the first step — make sure you vote! If you’re looking for a non-partisan guide to California’s state propositions, this one is pretty awesome.

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos on Courthouse Square and at the San Mateo County History Museum on November 6!  The celebration will feature music, an elaborate altars contest, a processional down Broadway at 7:00pm, traditional food, crafts, and free activities for children!

This may not come as a surprise to local residents: The San Francisco Bay Area’s Peninsula region is short tens of thousands of housing units because of strong job and population growth over the last nine years, according to an economic report released Thursday. The report by the Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s Institute for Regional Studies said the region including San Francisco, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties is short 60,000 housing units, a problem exacerbated in the last year by the addition of 65,600 jobs and 39,800 residents.

On a similar note, a recent housing march in North Fair Oaks revealed a deep anxiety of displacement. An estimated 400 people took to the streets of Redwood City on Oct. 21 to protest evictions and rent spikes at a 48-unit apartment complex that was bought in July by Los Angeles-based firm Trion Properties.

The owner of Redwood City Italian restaurant Donato Enoteca is opening a wine bar, retail store and cafe inside the nearby headquarters of tech-company Box. Cru Wine Bar & Merchant opened on Nov. 2. Head on down there and check it out. Looks like we’ll have some good weather this weekend, which would make for a lovely afternoon sitting on the outdoor patio.

And of course, check out this weekend’s open houses. If you’re thinking of buying or selling a house in Redwood City, I’d love to help. You can sign up for listing updates here or contact me here.
