Redwood City has always been a mecca for great Mexican food. Seeing as there are close to 100 Mexican restaurants across town, the choices are almost endless. I’ve lived in Redwood City for most of my life and love Mexican food, so I thought I would share some of my favorites taquerias in town.
1.) Taqueria Mar & Tierra
This taqueria has great burritos and marinated meats. It’s location inside the strip mall at Broadway and Woodside Road might throw you off, but it’s seriously one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. The shopping center is being replaced with luxury apartments, offices, and some commercial space. We really hope they open a new location in Redwood City!
2.) Chavez Supermarket & Taqueria
This spot serves up tacos, burritos, and what ever else you might want — since it’s also a supermarket. Stock up Tapatio, Jarritos, and other Mexican foods while you’re here. There are two locations in Redwood City: one on Arugello near downtown, and another on 5th Ave. & El Camino.
3.) La Casita Chilanga
This place is famous for their excellent tortas. Seriously, you have to order a torta if you go here — it will quite possibly be the best you’ll ever have. On El Camino between Broadway and Brewster.
4.) Sancho’s Taqueria
Sancho’s offers tacos, burritos, traditional plates, outdoor dining, beers, and wines. It’s a great place to go on a warm night (or afternoon) and eat outside. When Natalie and I lived in Emerald Hills, Sancho’s was our go-to. We would walk down and get dinner there once or twice a week.
5.) El Grullense
Also known as El G — it’s inexpensive, open late and serves tacos and burritos. I think there are a total of nine locations in Redwood City.
Where are your favorite taquerias or places to get Mexican food in the city? I’m always on the lookout for new spots, so please share in the comments below.
