Dinner and a movie is always fun, but this Valentine’s Day why not shake things up a little? Here are five alternatives to the traditional standby that will give you memories for years to come, whether you’re celebrating with the love of your life or your best gal pals. An added bonus: everything is right here in Redwood City!
Watch the Sunrise
Forget about breakfast in bed. Get up early and make a pot of coffee and your favorite breakfast snack and head out to the Redwood Shores Bay Trail to watch the sunrise. It will be coming up on Feb. 14 at 7:01am. It will definitely set a romantic tone for the rest of the day.
Take a Hike
Get outside and get some fresh air with your sweetie or your favorite hiking buddy. Edgewood Park is a quick drive up Edgewood Road and has some great trails. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, pack a lunch, and head up to Huddart Park for some beautiful scenery, Redwood trees, and banana slugs!
Volunteer
What could possibly be better than spending part of the day snuggling with some adorable kittens or playing with a puppy. Volunteer at a local animal shelter like Pets in Need or Nine Lives. It will put a smile on your Valentine’s face and you’ll be doing something good for your new found furry friends.
Get Artsy!
Show off your creative side for your sweetheart. Gather up some art supplies (or head down to University Art to pick some up) and paint something together. Bonus points for painting portraits of each other!
Book a Hot Reservation (at Home)
Get dressed up and head to your very own kitchen to get the romance cookin’. Start from scratch with one of your favorite recipes, or if you want a little help try a service like Good Eggs to get things rolling. Pick up flowers from Ailli Ice Designs to decorate the table and a gift from Brick Monkey for your someone special.
